A growing and well-established logistics and distribution business is looking to appoint an experienced Transport Planning Lead to support and enhance its UK and Ireland operations.
With continued investment in fleet, systems, and infrastructure, the business is focused on driving operational efficiency and service excellence. This role offers strong scope for progression into a senior leadership position.
The Role
This is a hands-on position responsible for coordinating day-to-day transport operations, managing a small team, and ensuring efficient, cost-effective delivery performance across a mix of distribution activities.
You'll work closely with senior leadership to optimise planning processes, improve performance, and support wider operational initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and allocate transport in the most efficient and cost-effective way
- Oversee daily transport operations across NI, ROI, and UK routes
- Lead, coach, and develop a small planning team (up to 6 people)
- Monitor and deliver against KPIs including utilisation, service levels, and cost control
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across transport operations
- Coordinate driver schedules, routes, and delivery timelines
- Build and maintain strong relationships with drivers, customers, and internal teams
- Produce operational reports and delivery schedules
- Work closely with sales and customer service teams to ensure smooth execution
- Manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Identify opportunities to improve operational performance and customer delivery
About You
- Essential - Experience in a senior transport planning, logistics, or distribution role
- Essential - Strong geographical knowledge of Northern Ireland, ROI, and UK routes
- Essential - Experience working with HGV drivers and driver hours regulations
- Essential - Previous team leadership or supervisory experience
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Confident communicator across multiple stakeholders
- Problem-solving mindset with a structured, process-driven approach
- Flexible attitude to working patterns
