A scaling, multichannel retail business operating in the Home, DIY, Garden and Electrical's space is seeking a Head of Online Trading to lead the expansion of its digital product assortment and drive profitable growth across dropship and extended online ranges. This role reports directly to the Managing Director and is geared toward individuals who thrive in fast-paced, entrepreneurial environments where trading decisions have real commercial impact.
The Head of Online Trading will:
Build and execute a commercial online trading strategy that expands product choice and drives profitable ecommerce sales
Identify category gaps and high-demand opportunities using digital data, search analytics, competitor benchmarking and pricing insight
Lead dropship and extended range expansion across Home, DIY, Garden and Electrical categories without tying up inventory
Source and onboard suppliers at pace, negotiate commercial terms and manage vendor performance end to end
Own online commercial performance metrics including sales, margin, commission rates, stock turn and digital profitability
Translate trading data, BI reports and ecommerce analytics into immediate actions around pricing, range adjustments, promotions and visibility
Work closely with ecommerce, marketing and operations teams to ensure products are discoverable, competitive and operationally sound
Take full lifecycle ownership of online-only SKUs, from onboarding through trading optimisation to exit decisions
The ideal Head of Online Trading will bring:
Strong online trading or ecommerce buying background with home category exposure (Home, DIY, Garden, Electricals or similar)
Hands-on dropship vendor management experience including onboarding, commercials, and trading performance
Commercial mindset with a trader mentality: comfortable scaling profitable ranges fast and exiting non-performers
Negotiation skills and supplier relationship management experience in a retail context
Ability to operate in an entrepreneurial environment with high accountability and rapid decision-making cycles
Confidence with ecommerce data (search data, pricing data, conversion metrics, marketplace benchmarks, etc.)
Strong P&L awareness and comfort owning financial outcomes in an ecommerce setting
