This is an exceptionally exciting opportunity to join a high-growth, premium brand that is scaling rapidly. With clear strategic plans already in place for the next 18 - 24 months and ambitious expansion targets over the next two to five years, the company is investing heavily in its people, products, and processes.The business is seeking an experienced Buyer with deep expertise in sourcing goods and sub-components within the outdoor & lifestyle sector. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in managing supplier relationships, controlling costs, and ensuring quality and compliance across a global supply chain, with a strong emphasis on Chinese manufacturing and FOB purchasing.
This is not a static buying role; it's one for someone savvy, commercially sharp, and unafraid to challenge. As the right candidate you will always seek the best possible deal without compromising quality with balancing premium standards with fair, transparent costings. You'll thrive in negotiations, understand the value of partnership with suppliers, tender programmes and bring energy, curiosity, and rigour to every commercial decision you make.
Key Responsibilities:
- Source and purchase finished products and sub-components for integration into the wider product range.
- Identify and onboard new suppliers capable of delivering premium quality, reliable lead times, and competitive costs.
- Build, maintain, and develop strong international supplier relationships, primarily in China.
- Conduct regular supplier visits to review production, quality, and tooling progress.
- Foster open, transparent communication with suppliers to ensure long-term partnerships.
- Negotiate pricing, payment terms, rebates, retros, early settlement discounts, and bought-out guarantees.
- Secure the most competitive landed costs while maintaining product quality and supplier reliability.
- Confidently manage tenders, benchmark suppliers, and drive continuous cost improvement.
- Understand and negotiate tooling agreements, MOQs, lead times, and warranty terms.
- Manage cost structures, price tracking, and profitability to ensure commercial viability across all SKUs.
- Conduct cost analysis, benchmarking, and scenario planning for price fluctuations and freight variations.
- Draft and review supplier contracts, ensuring all commercial and legal terms are clearly defined and enforceable.
- Maintain awareness of international trade laws, import duties, and product compliance requirements.
- Oversee tooling development, pre-production sampling, and factory quality control processes.
- Collaborate closely with internal teams to resolve quality issues, production delays, or non-conformance.
- Work with product, marketing, and operations teams to ensure timely delivery and seamless onboarding of products into the e-commerce platform.
What we'd love to see:
- 8+ years' experience in buying roles
- Strong experience working with Chinese manufacturers, including regular factory travel and supplier relationship management.
- Expert knowledge of FOB terms, international freight, and landed cost management.
- Commercially astute and highly numerate, with strong analytical skills and advanced Excel proficiency.
- Experience supporting e-commerce product lifecycles, including onboarding, forecasting, and demand planning.
- A confident and persuasive communicator, able to influence stakeholders across cultures and functions.
- Independent, detail-driven, and results-focused, capable of managing complex international supplier portfolios.
